Preventing the Spread of Germs

Parents: As you know our county has seen an increase in illnesses the past few weeks with the most common being strep throat and the flu.

As a reminder to prevent the spread of germs you can do the following:

  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

  • While sick, avoid contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them. You should stay home except to get medical care.

  • If you or your child is sick with a fever, you need to stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.

  • If you or your child have a sore throat with high fever, get medical care. Strep throat needs to be treated with antibiotics.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
