Superintendent's Message - October 2018

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer and are ready for a new and exciting school year.  The first day for teachers is August 10th and students will begin on August 15th. Pleasants County Schools are eager to greet students and get the school year started.

There have many facility upgrades throughout the summer, including construction projects in three of our schools: Belmont Elementary and St. Marys Elementary- received Safe Schools Entrances and a new security system and cameras; Pleasants County Middle School- received ADA restrooms and locker room renovations. Principals, Custodians and the Maintenance Department are working diligently trying to complete everything before school begins.

Summer School, Summer Boost, Extended School Year and Energy Express had another successful summer session. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication put in by the staff and students. Pleasants County Schools continues to provide the very best education for our student through all these summer programs.

Pleasants County Schools had a very successful 2017-2018 school year. All schools will continue to be committed to improving student performance and achievement.

I would like to welcome back to the board of education Dr. Heather Straight (President), Danny DeMoss (Vice-President), Dave Meeks and new board members, Sherry Maston and Bradley VanZile.

All great things are accomplished together. I appreciate all of the support we have received from parents, community members, and staff in making Pleasants County Schools the very best. I look forward to the 2018-2019 school year with anticipation of great things to come as we continue this positive journey together!

Superintendent’s Message - October 2018

Pleasants County Schools is nearing the end of the first nine weeks, which will be October 12th, 2018.  Report cards will be sent home with students on October 19th.  Many educational programs continue to be provided throughout our schools.  The implementation of our new Math adoption has been a positive addition.  Each school’s curriculum and leadership teams have completed their school’s 2018-2019 strategic plan, which outlines their specific reading/language arts and mathematics goals for this year. Our schools are continuing to guide students academically to reach their full potential. Student GSA results and Lexile/Quantile scores will be sent home to parents very soon. The county central office and each school continue to work together and provide valuable professional development.

The Safe School entrances at Belmont Elementary and St. Marys Elementary are within days of being completed and the SBA project at PCMS, which includes new ADA compliant restrooms and locker rooms. We have been so fortunate in Pleasants County to have been the recipient of numerous School Building Authority projects. Maintenance and renovation of our schools continues to be a top priority and our facilities reflect the great care we take of them.

The 2018-2019 school year has begun in a very positive manner with each school seeing success and gains on their school and students’ GSA results.   Included in each school’s strategic plan is the professional development and goals identified to continue to improve in reading/language arts and mathematics.

“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.”
