I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. As we welcome in 2019, Pleasants County Schools will continue to keep student safety our number one priority when decisions are made during this winter in regards to school closings. Pleasants County has currently missed 5 inclement weather days.
Pleasants County Schools is in full swing with Spring
Events and Activities. It is a very busy time for all of our students and their
families. The fourth nine weeks is under way with mid-terms coming out on April
25, 2019. Each school is gearing up for
the General Summative Assessment (GSA) and we know our students will perform
well, thanks to our teachers who have been working diligently to prepare them
for these tests. The assessment will be
administered in Pleasants County Schools the week of May 6th, 2019.
Graduation for the Class of 2019 is rapidly approaching
and will take place at the St. Marys High School- Bill Hanlin Stadium on
Sunday, May 26th, 2019. There
are so many bright and talented students in this class and we look forward to
sharing their journey as they transition into the world.
Pleasants County Schools take great pride in their school
facilities and many projects are slated for this summer. We are very excited to
continue working with the WV School Building Authority in projects at Belmont
Elementary, St. Marys Elementary and Pleasants County Middle School. Work will begin in June/July of 2019.
Pleasants County Schools is planning and working on the
2019-2020 school year activities, including: the Annual Budget, School
Calendar, Summer School/Extended School Year, and Energy Express & Summer Boost
programs. Teachers and administrators have been involved in the textbook adoptions
for this year in the area of Social Studies.
We are very proud of the hard work of our students and
staff and we would like to invite everyone to visit our schools this spring as
our students showcase their many talents in numerous extracurricular activities.
Please continue to stay actively involved in your student’s education and do not hesitate to contact your child’s school with any concerns or questions. Together we can make a difference in your child’s success.
The third nine weeks is in full swing and mid-terms will be sent home with students on February 6th, 2019. The academic year continues to be a success with each school working diligently in improving instruction, so that every student can reach their full potential in the classroom.
Pleasants County Schools continues to update our facilities. We received $900,000 from the School Building Authority for (2019-2020) to upgrade the following: New Roofing and HVAC in the kitchen/cafeteria area at St. Marys Elementary, New HVAC in the Pre-K/K wing at Belmont Elementary, and a New Hot Water and Storage Tank at Pleasants County Middle School. We hope that work will begin in the Summer of 2019 and completed before school begins in the Fall of 2019.
I encourage parents to stay involved in your child’s education and attend school programs and activities. I also encourage everyone in the community to continue to support our student-athletes at Pleasants County Middle School and St. Marys High School with Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling and Cheerleading. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to provide the very best education to your children.

always nice to spend time with friends and family around the holiday season. We
are blessed in Pleasants County to able to enjoy all the schools academic
achievements and extra-curricular events.
I want to say “thank you” to the Pleasants County Friends of Education and all of the Pleasants County Community who supported and promoted the School Excess Levy. The levy passed by 62%, and benefactors will certainly be our students.
Fall Sports have concluded and we are beginning the
Winter Sports Season with Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling and
Cheerleading. I would like to wish all teams a healthy season and good luck!
The Christmas season is almost upon us. Students are
currently preparing for their Christmas Concerts and are excited to perform for
their parents, teachers and the community. We encourage everyone to come out
and support our students at one of the school concerts to help you get in the
holiday spirit. The Christmas Concert Schedule is below.
It is hard to believe the first semester of the 2018-2019
school year is almost over. The second nine weeks will end on December 21st.
Christmas break will be from December 21st, 2018 through January 2nd, 2019.
Students will return to school on Thursday, January 3rd, 2019 and together we
will continue to strive for excellence.
