Superintendent's Message - April 2019

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season.  As we welcome in 2019, Pleasants County Schools will continue to keep student safety our number one priority when decisions are made during this winter in regards to school closings.  Pleasants County has currently missed 5 inclement weather days.

Pleasants County Schools is in full swing with Spring Events and Activities. It is a very busy time for all of our students and their families. The fourth nine weeks is under way with mid-terms coming out on April 25, 2019.  Each school is gearing up for the General Summative Assessment (GSA) and we know our students will perform well, thanks to our teachers who have been working diligently to prepare them for these tests.  The assessment will be administered in Pleasants County Schools the week of May 6th, 2019.

Graduation for the Class of 2019 is rapidly approaching and will take place at the St. Marys High School- Bill Hanlin Stadium on Sunday, May 26th, 2019.  There are so many bright and talented students in this class and we look forward to sharing their journey as they transition into the world.

Pleasants County Schools take great pride in their school facilities and many projects are slated for this summer. We are very excited to continue working with the WV School Building Authority in projects at Belmont Elementary, St. Marys Elementary and Pleasants County Middle School.  Work will begin in June/July of 2019.

Pleasants County Schools is planning and working on the 2019-2020 school year activities, including: the Annual Budget, School Calendar, Summer School/Extended School Year, and Energy Express & Summer Boost programs. Teachers and administrators have been involved in the textbook adoptions for this year in the area of Social Studies.

We are very proud of the hard work of our students and staff and we would like to invite everyone to visit our schools this spring as our students showcase their many talents in numerous extracurricular activities.

Please continue to stay actively involved in your student’s education and do not hesitate to contact your child’s school with any concerns or questions. Together we can make a difference in your child’s success.

February 2019

The third nine weeks is in full swing and mid-terms will be sent home with students on February 6th, 2019.  The academic year continues to be a success with each school working diligently in improving instruction, so that every student can reach their full potential in the classroom.

Pleasants County Schools continues to update our facilities.  We received $900,000 from the School Building Authority for (2019-2020) to upgrade the following:  New Roofing and HVAC in the kitchen/cafeteria area at St. Marys Elementary, New HVAC in the Pre-K/K wing at Belmont Elementary, and a New Hot Water and Storage Tank at Pleasants County Middle School. We hope that work will begin in the Summer of 2019 and completed before school begins in the Fall of 2019.

I encourage parents to stay involved in your child’s education and attend school programs and activities.  I also encourage everyone in the community to continue to support our student-athletes at Pleasants County Middle School and St. Marys High School with Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling and Cheerleading. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to provide the very best education to your children.

December 2018

I want to say “thank you” to the Pleasants County Friends of Education and all of the Pleasants County Community who supported and promoted the School Excess Levy. The levy passed by 62%, and benefactors will certainly be our students.
