We are happy to announce that all four of our schools are recipients of the "Keep the Ball Rolling" Grant to support student needs by funding pantries, clothing closets, personal care items, etc. Each school was awarded a $1,500 grant. Susan goes above and beyond to support the students both academically and personally. She creates a welcoming classroom environment, makes learning fun and engaging, takes the time to make sure every student feels valued and supported. Her patience, kindness, and dedication has a positive impact on students every day. Susan truly cares about every students’ success and works hard to help them reach their full potential.
St. Marys H.S.: (9/28/26) All students and staff are safe. The fire alarm system was triggered, but there was no actual issue. The building has been thoroughly checked and cleared by school maintenance and local emergency services. In addition, fire alarm testing is being conducted at other buildings in the county.

Whereas, school service personnel are involved in nearly every aspect of education by maintaining buildings and grounds, Preparing and serving meals, keeping school facilities clean and orderly, and assisting in the classroom, as well as providing administrative support functions, safe transportation, and many other specialized services; and Whereas school service personnel are instrumental in West Virginia’s responsibility to educate all students; and  Whereas these dedicated individuals serve the children of West Virginia in our public education system and have an important role of non-instructional service to the educational system; and Whereas it is fitting we recognize the outstanding work these individuals do for this state, their communities, and the students enrolled in West Virginia schools. Mrs. Watson consistently goes beyond what is required of her each day for her students. She treats every student with kindness, patience, and respect. Her students enjoy her engaging crafts while creating a positive and supportive environment. She also takes time to interact with students outside of the classroom, showing that she cares about them and their well-being. Mrs. Watson is a dependable presence and an invaluable part of the SMES!

Nurse Allison is a very caring individual who cares about all our students. She has gone above and beyond to help my child when she attended school at SMES when she was feeling anxious or overwhelmed as well as when she was having medical emergencies. She has also been a positive light for the students at SMES when they are in need. -Submitted by a parent
