SMES first Local School Improvement Council (LSIC) organizational meeting (election of officers) and the first business meeting have been scheduled for Thursday, September 12 at 4:00 p.m. in the Counselors Office. All stakeholders are invited and encouraged to attend! If you are a parent/guardian and interested in being a member of the LSIC please complete the nomination form that was sent home with students on September 9. Please return the nomination form to the school by Wednesday, September 11. We will elect all new members on September 12.

This is a reminder that Lifetouch will be taking 'Fall Pictures' at SMES on Tuesday, September 10. The preferred method of ordering student pictures is online by going to mylItetouch.com and entering SMES School code: EVTF8TKPK. If pictures are ordered online there is no need to return the picture packet. Also, the SMES PTO would like to remind parents and students the SMES Spirit T-Shirt sell will end on Wednesday, September 11. Please send your T-Shirt order to school ASAP. Staff and students will wear the school t-shirts on Fridays. The SMES PTO appreciates your continued support.

Pictures can be ordered on line at mylifetouch.com with your students ID (student number) or SMES picture day ID: EVTF8TKPK. Ordering on line is the preferred method for purchasing pictures. If you purchase pictures on line, there is no need to return the picture packet on picture day. This is an reminder that SMES will be hosting "Back to School" activities beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria this evening. Parents and students will be permitted to meet and greet classroom teachers and ask necessary questions regarding the school year. Sno Biz will be set up on campus with cool, refreshing treats for parents and students to enjoy for a small fee. Doors will open at 4:45 p.m. and we look forward to seeing everyone this evening.

The West Virginia Legislature has removed “educational leave” or what we called locally “leave of educational value” from the list of excused absences for all West Virginia Public Schools. Please see the information below.

The West Virginia Legislature has removed “educational leave” or what we called locally “leave of educational value” from the list of excused absences for all West Virginia Public Schools. ~~~~ If a student goes on a family trip/vacation during the school year, the absences will count towards the limit of 10 days per school year that can be excused with a parent note. Pleasants County Schools will no longer approve “leave of educational value” to comply with this new change to state code.(Changes are due to WV Senate Bill 568; W.V. Code §18-8-4(a).)  School sponsored trips that are co-curricular or extra-curricular(including athletics, field trips, activities, and events) are not affected by this and will not count towards the limit of parent notes for absences.
