Pleasants County Adds Seventh Access Point

Pleasants County Adds Seventh Access Point

Over the summer, Governor Jim Justice initiated the WV Kids Connect Program to provide internet access to support the learning needs of children who do not have access to the Internet at their home in the event of full- remote or partial- remote learning. From the comfort and security of a vehicle, a student will be able to access the Internet to complete their school assignments when accompanied by an adult. These access points are open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM including weekends and holidays. In Pleasants County, access points were established in September in the front and back parking lots at PCMS/BES, at the playground parking lot at SMES; the rear parking lot at SMHS, the front parking lot at MOVTI, and the parking lot of the Public Library. This week, a seventh access point was added at the Board of Education in the visitor parking area on the left side of the building. All access points are marked with blue signs that include a connection assistance hotline. With Pleasants County School using Apple SchoolWork and Microsoft OneDrive/ Teams, within minutes a student can upload completed work and download new assignments to their iPad or complete other school-related tasks with this connection. When a student connects to the access point, an “acceptance of terms” page appears, much like a connection at a café or restaurant. These access points are filtered and monitored by state agencies. More information and a page of frequently asked questions are available at wvkidsconnect.net.
