SMHS is excited to announce that a team of students enrolled in Mr. Joe Semple's AP Art class recently took on the challenge of entering the Matt Barker Cardboard Regatta race in Paden City, WV. These students worked diligently to develop a plan and design for their boat to be successfully raced on the Ohio River! Our team from SMHS not only engineered a boat that would withstand the contest, their design WON the race against approximately 50 other entries! We are so proud of Brady Rinard, Brody Rice, Preston Lawhon and Tyson Kimball for their perseverance and dedication to this STEAM project! In winning the event, the team qualified to take their craft to the highest level and race at the National Cardboard Regatta contest in Georgetown, South Carolina on Oct. 20th. In order to attend this event, we are requesting donations to off-set the cost of their travel, meals and lodging. If you would like to help sponsor our team, please make checks payable to SMHS (earmarked for the AP Art program). Thank you so much for helping support our students with this amazing opportunity!

Volleyball schedule update: Tomorrow's volleyball match vs Parkersburg Catholic has been pushed back to a 6:30 p.m. start. Parkersburg Catholic only has a varsity team, there will not be a JV contest. Due to an official's shortage, we have secured a top official from the Clarksburg area to assist us in hosting our LKC scheduled match. Please be aware that the WVSSAC and WV high school sports need officials. If you are interested in becoming an official in any sport, contact myself or the WVSSAC office. If you are not, please be kind to the officials we have and remind yourself we are all in it for the student athletes! Thank you for your understanding and we are working with our local officiating boards to "Let them play".
