Congratulations to Emma Grace Kirby; she was just notified that she received a 2,500-dollar scholarship from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. A formal announcement will be made at a Scholarship Announcement Ceremony held on July 28 in Washington, D.C. Ms. Kirby and her family received a formal invitation to attend. Here at St. Mary High School, we are incredibly proud of Emma and the rest of her classmates for their hard work regarding scholarships. The new total regarding scholarship money for the Class of 2025 is now bringing their formal total to 3,565,185.
Please note that Ms. Kirby did an exceptional job applying for scholarships; her hard work is paying off. Ms. Kirby plans to attend Marietta College in the fall and major in biology. Her overall goal is to participate in medical school and become a pediatrician.

As the academic year draws to a close, anticipation is building for the upcoming graduation ceremony honoring the accomplishments of the St. Marys High School Class of 2025. Scheduled for May 25th at 7:00 p.m., the event will take place at Bill Hanlin Stadium, where students, families, faculty, and community members will gather to celebrate this important milestone.
This year’s graduation marks not only the end of an educational chapter but also the beginning of new journeys for the 82 members of the graduating class. Many have spent years preparing for this moment—balancing rigorous coursework, extracurricular activities, and personal challenges to reach this significant goal.

Congratulations to Trenton Douglas Renner, who was notified today of receiving the Albert Yanni Scholarship. The Albert Yanni Scholarship is offered to graduating high school students who are pursuing a professional certification. Students with a high attendance record and strong academics are encouraged to apply. Trenton will continue with his studies in nursing at WVUP following high school graduation. Trenton attended MOVTI for the Advanced Medical Program and also earned his Patient Care Tech from WVUP prior to high school graduation. Congratulations Trenton Douglas Renner on your scholarship !


Seniors; this is a reminder that the mandatory walking practice is tomorrow, the 20th. It will be held on the football field and will start at 10 a.m. Students cannot leave until the administration dismisses; however, this should only be until 11 a.m.
If you are attending the Kings Island trip on Wednesday, Mrs. Rinard needs a permission slip tomorrow, as the final count is due tomorrow.
Wednesday the 21st is the Senior Trip to Kings Island. Admission is provided to students, as well as an unlimited meal and drink voucher. Students need to check the weather and dress appropriately, as it is supposed to be cold with possible rain. Students will need to report to the high school by 6:15 a.m. and go to the commons.
Thursday the 22nd is mandatory walking practice again at 10 a.m. This will be held on the football field unless there is rain, in which case students need to report to the gym. All students giving speeches must follow walking practice to practice speaking and using the microphone.

This is a reminder that tomorrow, May 19th is the Senior Awards Day at SMHS. All seniors need to be in the gym by 8:00 a.m. in their cap and gown and professional dress. The Senior Awards Day and Scholarship Ceremony is open to all families and will begin in the auditorium at 8:30 a.m. Any guests must sign in with the office. We are looking forward to a great day celebrating the achievements of our seniors at SMHS!

Reminder: The Annual Sports Reception to honor SMHS Athletic participants from 2024-25 will be held tomorrow, May 15th in the SMHS Auditorium beginning at 6 pm. Coaches, athletes, parents, friends and family are invited to a small reception before the awards start that is sponsored by the SMHS Athletic boosters. At 6 pm, we will begin recognizing each sports participants and award varsity letters achieved this year. Please come join us as we celebrate another great year of SMHS Athletics!

Tonight's baseball and softball post season games have been cancelled due to weather. SMHS softball will host Ravenswood tomorrow at 6:30 and SMHS baseball will travel to Ravenswood for a 6:30 pm start.

Pleasants County Schools (SMHS/ PCMS) was fortunate to have Student and Faculty representation in the 2025 West Virginia Arts Alive Program. Here are a few pictures from the event.
Arts Alive is an annual event hosted by the WV Dept. of Education to showcase the artistic achievements of public school students in the state. It features a variety of performances in music, dance, visual arts, and theater, along with an art exhibition showcasing student work.
