As part of the ESSA, we are required to provide information to parents that they can share with their children on Cyber Safety that is in addition to Cyber Safety that is taught in the school. PCS Recommends using the resources on Common Sense Media at commonsense.org (click on parenting for parent-specific resources.) We also recommend using the following resource for parents to talk to their children about Copyright and Fair Use on the internet: https://www.pleasantscountyschools.com/article/1304647

Recently, the WVDE released its Accountability Report. The report assesses each county based on the criteria in the "Balanced Scorecard" as well as the "operational effectiveness" of the district. The state examines 11 indicators. PCS was one of six counties in the state to achieve "green" status with no areas “on watch” from the state! Thank you to our staff, students, and board members who all played a part in meeting these 11 indicators.

SMHS homecoming is tomorrow as we host the Magnolia Blue Eagles, the contest will be kicking off at 7 pm ! We will be honoring past Belles before the contest and of course we will be crowning our 70th Belle of St. Marys during halftime ceremonies. The homecoming parade will begin at 4:30 pm from the marina and will travel its usual route through downtown St. Marys. Finally, JC Films Studios will be at our facilities filming footage for their movie project, "Faith. Family. Football". They will be passing out information at the gate stating, "We are filming a movie in this area, by entering the HOME BLEACHER SECTION, you consent to be photographed filmed and recorded....., you waive all rights you may have to any claims for payment or royalties in connection with any use, exhibition, streaming, etc.... whether a fee for admission or sponsorship is charged". In essence, there will be filming and if you do not wish to take a chance on being recorded, please do not sit in the home stand bleachers tomorrow. Thank you and see you tomorrow night, Let's GO DEVILS!

Topics include- Why Address Bullying?, Definition, Types of Bullying, Roles Students Play, and Prevalence. These can make great discussion points when discussing how to prevent and address bullying issues. Access the resources at: https://olweus.sites.clemson.edu/bullyinginfo.php

As we were to phase-in our new bullying prevention program, students in grades 3-12 will be asked to participate in the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire during the first two weeks of October. The information from this questionnaire will help guide our school staff members in implementing the OBPP effectively in our schools. Parents were notified of their right to opt out of having their student participate in this questionnaire in September.
