The Governor's Honors Academy has been creating opportunities and changing lives for rising seniors since 1984, and it continues to reach back into the past, pulling memories and relationships to the present. This three-week experience on a college campus that provides active learning, energetic classes, and exciting, invigorating, and intellectually compelling activities will prepare students to become forces in their communities. On this date in 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the flag. Both President Wilson, in 1916, and President Coolidge, in 1927, issued proclamations asking for June 14 to be observed as the National Flag Day. It wasn't until August 3, 1949, that Congress approved the national observance and President Truman signed it into law.

Dear Community- during the months of June and July we will have a large number of our students attending summer academic programs and many more stopping by our schools for the summer food program and other “drop-in” services. Please exercise caution when driving near bus stops and near the schools as we will have students coming to the schools by bus, by car, and by walking. Thank you!

COACHES/ BAND DIRECTORS: as a reminder, all coaches/ band directors (including authorized/ non-paid) who are under the WVSSAC must complete the Annual Verification of CPR/AED Training FORM each year. If your certificate or card is valid from the previous school year (and is on file,) you do not need to resubmit a new copy of the certificate/ card, however, the verification form is required every year. Reminder to SMHS students: if you were not at school on the last day and did not receive your final report card, please stop by the office. We also have several certificates, banners, etc. that must be picked up as soon as possible. The office is open M-F 8:00 - 3:00. Thank you and we hope everyone is having a wonderful summer break!

Congratulations to our BACF All-Star Game Participants from Pleasants County! We were proud to be the hosting school district for the 2022 BACF Game and would also like to thank everyone who had a role in organizing and facilitating.

We are saddened over the recent loss of a Ritchie County High School student. Any SMHS student needing support can contact the counselors at the school Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-3:30 pm. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and communities at this time.

In honor of Memorial Day, offices and schools will be closed on Monday, May 30.

Seniors please refer to the attached schedule for the rest of the Senior activities this week. Tuesday 5/24 walking practice is at 10:00AM at the football field. The walking practice on 5/25 has been canceled due to our girls playing in the state softball tournament. Walking practice on Friday 5/27 will be at the football field at 1:00. All walking practices are mandatory in order to participate in graduation.

Parents: Any medications left at school need to be picked up by June 24, 2022. Any medications not picked up will be disposed of as per policy. Also, as a reminder for new medications next school year: the doctor medication order form can be printed off from the school webpage under the school nurse tab. A new form needs to be filled out each school year. Please call the school with any questions.

Reminder that the Athletic Boosters Sports Reception for athletic awards starts at 6 pm Tuesday 5-24-22 in the auditorium.

We would like to remind the parents of the Senior Class that you are welcome to attend the senior awards day. Senior awards day will be held at the SMHS gym on Monday 5/23 starting at 9:00 AM to 11:30AM. The awards program will resume at 1:00PM in the auditorium. Families are welcome to attend both the awards show and slideshow.

Any students interested in riding a pep bus to attend the Girl’s Softball 1st Round State Tournament game next Wednesday need to sign up in the office to see if we have enough interest. We will need to know by noon on Monday 5/23 if you plan to ride the bus. Tickets will be $7.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. If we have enough interest, the bus will depart Wednesday at 7:30 AM for the 9:45 game in South Charleston and be home for the evening bus run.

Graduation will be held on May 29 at 7 PM. Congratulations Class of 2022!!

The softball WVSSAC Regional game vs Wheeling Central tonight at 6 pm has been re-scheduled until tomorrow, 5-19 at 6 pm, due to incoming weather concerns and distance traveling for the away team. Thanks for understanding and come support our Lady Devils tomorrow night.

WVSSAC Softball Regional Information- SMHS vs Wheeling Central
